Mahalaxmi (Ambabai) Temple

One of the Shakti Peethas — and directly opposite our west-side entrance.

Opposite the dharmashala

The Mahalaxmi Temple, also called the Ambabai Temple, is the spiritual centre of Kolhapur and is revered as one of the three and a half Shakti Peethas. Tradition attributes its founding to the Chalukya king Karnadeva in the 7th century CE, and devotees travel here from across Maharashtra and beyond to seek the blessings of Goddess Mahalaxmi, the deity of Karveer.

Shri Mahalaxmi Dharmashala stands opposite the temple's west side on Tarabai Road, so the temple is a short walk from your room — a real advantage when you want to join the early-morning darshan or return to rest after a long queue.
