Three kinds of stays near the temple
Around the Mahalaxmi Temple you will find trust-run dharmashalas and yatri niwas, small private lodges, and hotels. Dharmashalas are usually the most affordable and the closest to the pilgrim tradition; hotels offer more amenities at a higher price; lodges sit in between.
What to check before you choose
A few questions will save you surprises on arrival:
- How far is it on foot from the temple gate you plan to use?
- Is the tariff clearly published, and is it for 24 hours or a fixed check-out time?
- What is the room capacity, and what is charged per extra person?
- Is there an attached bathroom, hot water and purified drinking water?
- Is there a locker for valuables, and what ID does the office need?
Festival-season tips
During Navratri, Ashwin Pournima and long weekends, rooms near the temple fill quickly. Contact the office as early as you can, stay flexible on dates, and consider the dormitory hall if your group is large and the budget is tight.
Our option: Shri Mahalaxmi Dharmashala
Shri Mahalaxmi Dharmashala stands opposite the temple's west side on Tarabai Road. Rooms are priced from ₹520 to ₹1,600 for 24 hours depending on capacity and AC, and a dormitory bed is ₹100 per person. Wi-Fi, lockers, hot and cold water and 24-hour room service are available.
A note on similar names
Several places in Kolhapur use “Mahalaxmi” in their names. Shri Mahalaxmi Dharmashala is run by Shri Mahalaxmi Bhakta Mandal, a registered public trust (Reg. No. E/197), at Tarabai Road, opposite the Mahalaxmi Temple (West). Check the address when you book.
